Cadenza Spring Music Festival

Frequently Asked Questions

As this is a new program, you may have many questions about how everything is going to work, and what your involvement might look like. You may find the answers to those questions on this page. If not, please feel free to contact us! We want to make this program accessible and fun for all who want to participate, and we would be happy to hear from you.

Q: I want to submit a recording to participate, but I don't have any songs that are polished for performance. Can I submit a work-in-progress?

A: Absolutely! This is a space for learning and enjoying and connecting, not for performing perfectly. We love works-in-progress - in fact, we've told our clinicians to expect them.

Q: How many classes can I register to participate in?

A: As many as you like!

Q: Do I have to pay $5 for each separate class I register to participate in?

A: Yes - but if that is a financial stressor for you, let us know. We'll do what we can to make the price affordable for everyone.

Q: I have a piece that I want to record and submit, but I'm not sure if it fits into any of the class genres. What should I do?

A: Contact us! We want to make space for whatever you want to submit - if you're not sure where it fits, let us know and we'll find a spot for it.

Q: Do I have to have accompanist to submit a recording?

A: You can submit a recording with or without an accompanist. You're also welcome to play along with recorded accompaniment.

Q: Can I submit the same recording to more than one class?

A: Maybe! If you're interested in doing this, contact us and we'll have a conversation about whether it makes sense.

Q: I want to participate, but am not from Southern Manitoba. Can I still register as a student participant?

A: Yes! While we are focussing our resources on involving local participants, we will not turn anyone away from participating.

Q: How long will each class be?

A: We're aiming for each class to be about 90 minutes long, but it will depend a bit on how many submissions each class receives.

Q: Can I share the link for the class I'm participating in with friends and family?

A: We would love for your friends and family to attend, and encourage you to invite them! However, we will only allow entrance to the Zoom to those who have registered directly, so they will need to register to attend through our website (there is a link to register as an attendee at the bottom of our main Cadenza Spring Music Festival page!)

Q: I want to participate in the Collaborative class with Leanne Zacharias and Jimmie Kilpatrick, but my family doesn't play music and I can't see my friends because of Covid restrictions. Is there a way I can still collaborate without being in-person with other musicians?

A: Absolutely. Many musicians are currently exploring split-screen recording, which involves collaborative musicians recording their parts separately and then using simple apps like iMovie to put the videos together. It's much simpler to do than you might think, and we are happy to help you out along the way. If you're interested in this but don't know where to start, please let us know!
